Palestinian Man Fatally Shot by Israeli Settler Near Hebron Settlement
A Palestinian man was shot and killed by an Israeli settler in an illegal Israeli settlement near Ad-Dhahiriya town, southwest of Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday. The incident further highlights the ongoing violence and tensions in the region.
The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the victim as 28-year-old Alaa Qaiseia. According to reports, he was fatally shot by an Israeli settler in the illegal Israeli settlement of Teneh Omrim, which is built on land belonging to Ad-Dhahiriya town.
The Israeli military claimed that Qaiseia was killed after allegedly infiltrating the settlement and attempting to carry out a stabbing operation. However, there were no reports of any Israeli casualties resulting from the incident.
Teneh Omrim, established in 1983, is home to nearly 1,000 settlers and is heavily guarded by the Israeli military. The presence of Israeli settlements in the occupied territories is considered illegal under international law.
Since the beginning of 2023, Israeli occupation forces and settlers have been responsible for the deaths of at least 157 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, as confirmed by the Palestinian Health Ministry. Among the victims are 10 females and 26 children, underscoring the devastating impact of the ongoing violence on Palestinian communities.
The shooting incident near Hebron serves as a stark reminder of the volatile situation in the occupied territories, where Palestinians continue to face numerous challenges and daily threats to their lives and well-being. The incident adds to the urgency of finding a peaceful and just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with an emphasis on ending the expansion of Israeli settlements and addressing the root causes of violence in the region.
